Controls
Classic point-and-click, WASD in the close camera, and touch controls on phones and tablets.
Aetheria has two ways to play on a computer, the classic view and the close camera, and full touch controls on phones and tablets. You can switch between them at any time. Using a gamepad? See Controller support.
Classic view
The classic point-and-click controls:
| Left-click | Walk, attack, talk and interact |
|---|---|
| Right-click | Open the options menu for whatever is under the cursor |
| Arrow keys or middle-mouse drag | Rotate the camera |
| Mouse wheel | Zoom (over the game world) |
Close camera and WASD
Press the backquote key (`, the key above Tab) to switch to the close camera: a camera close behind your character, with WASD movement and mouse look. Press it again to go back to the classic view.
| WASD | Move your character |
|---|---|
| Shift (hold) | Run |
| Alt / Option | Toggle mouse look. With mouse look off, the cursor is free to use menus and settings. |
| Space | Interact with what is in front of you. Hold it for the options menu, then ↑ ↓ and Space to choose. |
| Tab | Cycle between movement, chat and your inventory |
| Arrow keys | Select items or interface options; at the edge of an item row, ← / → switches panels |
| Esc | Close an open menu |
A small Controls box in the game shows these keys while the close camera is on. The full guide, with the crosshair, chatting and menus: WASD Mode.
Fighting while you steer
Combat keeps going while you move with WASD. If you start steering within 3 tiles of your target, you keep fighting it and swing whenever it is in reach. Walk more than 6 tiles away and you drop the target. See Action Combat.
Touch controls
On phones and tablets, touches map onto the same actions as the mouse:
| Tap | Walk, attack, talk and interact |
|---|---|
| Hold | Open the options menu for what is under your finger |
| Drag | Turn the camera. A drag that starts on an inventory item moves the item instead. |
| Swipe in a list | Scroll lists such as your bank. Rest your finger on an item for a moment before moving to drag it. |
| Keyboard button | Opens your phone's keyboard to chat; the game view follows it so the chat line stays visible |
Camera and display
- The Camera plugin (on by default) expands the zoom limit and smooths camera rotation.
- Stretched Mode, GPU and 117 HD plugins change how the game is drawn. Turn them on with the Configuration button in the client toolbar. Client plugins
- Browser zoom (Ctrl + + / -, or Cmd on a Mac) makes the whole game larger or smaller; F11 goes full screen on Windows.
Key bindings and settings
::keybinds opens the key bindings and ::settings the game settings. The Menu Entry Swapper plugin lets you choose which option a left-click or shift-click uses.
